Our Mission is to promote beekeeping and educate the public about the vital role of bees in our environment.
In 1979, a handful of East Bay beekeepers got together for the purpose of buying beekeeping supplies and bee packages in bulk. They formed a club in 1982, called The Mount Diablo Beekeepers Association. They learned from one another, worked with each other, building camaraderie around a common interest.
Today MDBA has members spanning Contra Costa County and beyond. Our membership includes beekeepers who have been actively keeping bees for over 40 years, and members who have just begun. Most of our members are hobbyist beekeepers and some are small commercial beekeepers in the Bay Area. We have beekeepers who volunteer and manage our Community Education Programming that presents at schools, youth and adult clubs and associations, community events, ag days, and school science fairs.
We continue to promote beekeeping though community and member education, mentoring, sharing, and passing our knowledge of beekeeping to new and seasoned beekeepers. We actively support best practices in beekeeping, scientific data and research around the honeybee, and creating habitat for honeybee and native bee pollinators.
